Around here
Country, with the city in reach.
Mount Pleasant is a village in Brant County, on the rail trail and fifteen minutes from Brantford. Here's what guests do with their days.
LE&N Rail Trail
The old Lake Erie & Northern electric rail line, now a gravel trail. North to Brantford (about 17 km) or south toward Port Dover. Walk, bike, run, or ski it in winter. Mount Pleasant Nature Park is right on it.
Brantford
The Grand River, the Sanderson Centre for live shows, the Bell Homestead, and the Woodland Cultural Centre. Groceries, restaurants, and everything you forgot to pack.
Paris, Ontario
A small town on the Grand with a walkable downtown of shops, cafés and restaurants. In summer, rent a tube or kayak and float the river.
Grand River
Canoe, kayak and tube trips run out of Paris and Brantford from spring to early fall. A designated Canadian Heritage River, and gentle enough for families.
Port Dover
Lake Erie beach town at the south end of the rail trail. Perch and chips on the pier, a swim, and the drive back through farm country.
Hamilton
Waterfalls, the Royal Botanical Gardens, and a very good food scene. An easy day trip.
Toronto
Far enough to feel away. Close enough that a Friday-after-work arrival is realistic.
Drive times are approximate, from Mount Pleasant in normal traffic.
By season
There's a reason to come in every one.
Trail walks as the fields green up. Pies and fresh bread from the Market for Easter.
Tube the Grand from Paris, ice cream at the Market, a fire in the Studio's fire pit.
The best season on the trail. Farm stands, colour along the river, and the Market's bakery at full tilt.
Cross-country ski the rail trail from the door, then back to a warm kitchen and a board game.
Staying in
Some of the best days are the ones you don't leave.
Both homes are set up for it: full kitchens, board games and books, and the Market next door for anything you didn't bring.
